MINAB
Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Minab is operated by Sama Data Processing (دادهپردازی عصر ارتباطات سما), also known as Sama Labs (“we”, “us”). The product is Minab. The public website is minab.app. The signed-in app is web.minab.app and the Minab iOS and Android apps.
Developer site: samalabs.ir. Contact: hello@samalabs.ir.
2. What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use Minab, including:
- the marketing site at minab.app;
- the web application at web.minab.app;
- the Minab apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android, including versions distributed on the App Store and Google Play.
By using Minab, you acknowledge this policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Related rules are in our Terms of Use.
3. Schools, families, and children
Minab is built for schools. A school invites staff, teachers, parents/guardians, and students. The school decides who has an account and what school records are stored (names, classes, attendance, homework, exams, messages, and similar education data).
For student information, the school is typically the organization that decides why the data is collected (for example, to run classes and keep education records). We process that information to provide Minab to the school.
Some students are children. Minab is not a public social network and is not offered for a child to create an account on their own from the App Store or Google Play. Student accounts are provisioned by the school, usually with a parent or guardian also linked. We do not use children’s data for marketing or advertising, and we do not sell it.
Schools may send permission requests through Minab (trips, activities, photos, and similar). A linked parent or guardian can respond in the app. That is in addition to, not a replacement for, the school’s own legal duties to families.
4. Information we collect
Depending on your role and what the school configures, we may process:
- Account details: name, username, email, password (stored as a hash, not in plain text), phone number, profile photo or avatar, language preference, and role (for example school admin, teacher, parent, or student).
- School and identity records the school enters: class and grade, national ID or student number, date of birth, birth-certificate number, address, guardian name and phone, and similar fields the school uses for enrollment.
- Education activity: attendance, homework and submissions, exam questions and answers, scores, report cards, timetable, calendar, library reading progress, polls, discipline notes the school records, and school gallery or knowledge-base files.
- Messages and notices: in-app messages, announcements, and parent permission responses.
- Live class: real-time audio and video if you join with camera or microphone; chat in the session; and, if the school starts a recording, a recording of that session for a limited time.
- Files: homework attachments, photos, short videos, presentation files, and similar uploads.
- Device and notifications: a push-notification token and platform (iOS or Android) so we can send alerts the school or Minab already allows, plus basic technical logs (for example time of a request) needed to run and secure the service.
- Phone verification and absence alerts: if a user verifies a mobile number, or the school notifies families about an absence, we process the phone number to send an SMS or a short automated call.
We do not collect precise GPS location, your device contacts list, or advertising identifiers for ads. The marketing site at minab.app does not require an account.
School staff may upload a scan or photo of an exam paper so Minab can help extract questions. That image is sent to our processing providers only to provide that feature.
5. Device permissions
The iOS and Android apps may ask for:
- Camera — to join a live class and, where the school uses it, to capture a photo for homework, gallery, or profile.
- Microphone — to speak in a live class.
- Photo library — to attach images or files the school already allows (homework, gallery, profile).
- Notifications — to deliver school alerts. You can turn these off in system settings.
These permissions are optional at the system level. If you refuse camera or microphone, you may still use other parts of Minab, but you will not be able to send video or audio in a live class.
6. How we use information
We use information to:
- provide, operate, and secure Minab for the school;
- authenticate users and keep sessions;
- show the right classes, messages, grades, and files to the right roles;
- run live classes and optional recordings;
- send in-app, push, SMS, or voice notifications the school or the product already supports (for example absence alerts);
- improve reliability, diagnose faults, and prevent abuse;
- comply with law and respond to lawful requests from the school or a competent authority.
We do not use personal information to show third-party ads or to build advertising profiles.
7. How we share information
We share information only as needed to run Minab:
- Inside the school: teachers, school admins, and other authorized staff see student and family information according to their role. Linked parents/guardians see information about their own children.
- Service processors: companies that host or transmit data on our instructions, which may include cloud hosting and file storage, live-video infrastructure, SMS and voice delivery in Iran (currently Kavenegar), and automated exam-paper reading (vision models). They are not allowed to use the data for their own advertising.
- Legal: if required by law, a court, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of users, the school, or us.
Some processing may happen on infrastructure outside Iran (for example cloud storage or AI processing). We use this only to operate Minab.
8. Retention
We keep information for as long as the school’s Minab workspace is active and as long as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, and meet legal duties. If a school ends its use of Minab, or a verified deletion request is completed, we delete or de-identify personal data except where the school or the law requires a longer education-record retention.
Live-class recordings, when enabled by the school, are kept only for a short period (typically about 24 hours) and then removed, unless a longer period is required for that school’s configuration or the law.
Push tokens are kept while the app is used to receive notifications and are removed when the user signs out of that device or the token is replaced.
9. Security
We use HTTPS for traffic in production, hashed passwords, role-based access, and access controls on files. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Schools and users must also keep passwords and devices safe and use Minab only on accounts the school assigned.
10. Your choices and rights
Depending on your role and applicable law, you may:
- view and update some profile fields in the app;
- ask the school to correct education records it controls;
- turn off push notifications in the operating system;
- refuse camera, microphone, or photo access in the operating system;
- request access, correction, or deletion of personal data as described below.
Because student records are held for the school, many requests are handled first by the school administrator. We will help the school respond.
11. Account deletion
Minab accounts are created by the school. To delete an account and the personal data we store for it:
- ask your school administrator to deactivate or remove the account in Minab; or
- email hello@samalabs.ir from a contact we can verify, naming the school and the account.
We will process a verified request in cooperation with the school. We may retain information the school is required to keep as an education record, or that we must keep for security, billing, or legal reasons, and we may keep limited logs after deletion.
Uninstalling the iOS or Android app does not by itself delete the school account. You must request deletion as above.
12. No advertising, no sale of data
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own advertising. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the Minab iOS or Android apps for tracking across other companies’ apps and websites.
The marketing site and the apps may use strictly necessary cookies or local storage (for example language preference and sign-in). That is not advertising.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. The current version will always be published at minab.app/en/privacy and minab.app/fa/privacy. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify schools, for example through the product or by email.
